A community, a memory, a mission
Les Auvergnois de Ponteix Inc. is the community organization that drives francophone life in Ponteix and southwest Saskatchewan.
Keeping French alive, here
Three main pillars guide our day-to-day work.
Heritage
Preserving and passing on the memory of the pioneer families and the history of the region, notably through the Notukeu Museum and our archives.
Community
Bringing together francophones and francophiles through events, services and gathering places open to everyone.
Education and culture
Supporting French-language education, youth and cultural creation, in collaboration with École Boréale and our partners.
1908: settlers from Auvergne found Ponteix
In the early 20th century, Father Albert-Marie Royer, a native of Auvergne, led French families to the lands of the Notukeu valley. There they founded a village they named Ponteix, in memory of the country they had left.
Parish, school, co-operatives, celebrations: generation after generation, French life took shape on the prairie. Our organization embodies that continuity today, under a name that honours the founders: Les Auvergnois de Ponteix.
Our francophonie is now plural: alongside descendants of the pioneers are families from Quebec, Africa, Europe and elsewhere, keeping the French language alive together.
An organization carried by its members
Les Auvergnois de Ponteix Inc. is a non-profit organization led by a volunteer board of directors, elected by members at the annual general meeting.
- A board of directors rooted in the community
- A team and volunteers engaged all year round
- Open membership: become a member and take part in decisions
We do not walk alone
Our work is made possible by the support of public, community and private partners at the local, provincial and federal levels. We thank them warmly.
